Chunky Newborn Elf Hat - Free Pattern

Alrighty, I've been ranting about doing this for awhile now...and last night I said, "By gum!  I'm going to do it!".  Yes.  Exact quote.  Actually, it helped that I had a client looking for a newborn elf hat using chunky yarn...I had to kind of experiment with what I could and couldn't do.  I really like how this turned out :)

So here's a pic of what it's going to look like...and here we go with my first...okay second pattern!  [Maybe I'll post the 'first' pattern I wrote tomorrow].

Experience Level - Beginner

Size - Newborn [12" circumference...but gives a LOT of stretch]

Materials

-Bernat Felting Natural Wool - Color "meadow" [1 Skein]

-K Hook

-Wool Needle

Stitches Used

-Ch = Chain

-Dc = Double Crochet

-Sc = Single Crochet

-Slst = Slip Stitch

*Chain 2 is not considered a double crochet...

*We're working in rounds from the top of the pointy elf hat, down to the brim...

Instructions

Round 1 : Ch 2, 4 dc in 2nd chain from hook, slst to join. [4]

Round 2 : Ch 2, dc in each dc around, slst to join [4]

Round 3 : Ch 2, dc in each dc around, slst to join [4]

Round 4 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, dc til end, slst to join [5]

Round 5 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, dc til end, slst to join [6]

Round 6 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, dc til end, slst to join [7]

Round 7 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, dc til end, slst to join [8]

Round 8 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, dc til end, slst to join [9]

Round 9 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, dc til end, slst to join [10]

Round 10 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next, 1 dc in next 4 dc's, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 4 dc's, slst to join [12]

Round 11 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next, 1 dc in next 5 dc's, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 5 dc's, slst to join [14]

Round 12 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next, 1 dc in next 6 dc's, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 6 dc's, slst to join [16]

Round 13 : Ch 2, 2 dc in next, 1 dc in next 7 dc's, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 7 dc's, slst to join [18]

FO weave in ends

Make pom pom of desired width, attach to end of elf hat for added baby awesomeness!

I hope this was clear enough, if you find any problems with the pattern, please feel free to add corrections and tell me off lol  I'm still learning and would love to get into pattern making if I could.  As I've said before I've found so many great free patterns online that helped me get into crocheting in the first place that I'm just trying to give 'something' back :)
